FAQ

What is the wedding dress code?

"Garden Party Formal" suggests suits for gentlemen, and mid-to-floor length gowns for ladies. Kilts and any other cultural attire is naturally welcome!

What can I expect at the Highland Games?

On Saturday, the games will be led by local professionals that guide participating "clans" (teams of up to 10 people) through six different sports and cultural activities traditional to the Scottish Highland Games. Some of these include: Tossing the Caber, Weight over Height, Highland Dancing & Bagpiping. We will create these clans in advance and participants will be emailed with their cohorts and team colors, if they wish to pack accordingly. Prizes can be won, and there will be bracketing of clan v. clan on certain games (because we know how competitive some of y'all are!). Spectators are free to roam the grounds and cheer on their favorite clans. There will be a cash bar on site if you'd like a wee dram. If you'd like to study up, we recommend "Home Game" on Netflix (Season 1, Episode 2) that does a deep dive into the Highland Games. Or get a quick five-minute overview here:

What should I wear to the Highland Games?

If you're participating in the games, come with athletic wear and comfortable shoes! Event is rain or shine. Game intensities will vary. Closer to the event, we will tell participants their assigned team colors (e.g., blue, red) and you may choose to rep your team colors, but this is optional. Traditionally, participants would wear kilts but this is not required (though if you feel like it, go for it!)

What is the taxi system from Carberry?

If you're not staying on site at Carberry for the wedding weekend, you'll want to stop by the front desk to pre-arrange a taxi to pick you up at your chosen time. Ubers are hard to come by outside of Edinburgh, so the easiest way to get home is let the staff know when you'd like to leave by.

What are the shared cottages at Carberry?

If you'd like to stay on site for the wedding weekend, there are four cottages located immediately adjacent to the castle (~50 feet away). These are communal homes with common spaces (living room and kitchen) that host four bedrooms and private bathrooms in each. Guests of the cottages are full service guests of Carberry, including breakfast and grounds access. Hannah & Han will coordinate these homes based on interest in RSVPs.
